What are some of the new releases that recently came from Apple?

Obviously the iPhone 7 / 7 Plus and iOS 10.

As a troubleshooter, I often get asked the most basic troubleshooting questions, especially from those who just purchased a new iPhone or got the newly updated firmware.

In the past, ever single iPhone releases come with several problems. And I’m sure this one wouldn’t be an exception. While you’re already here, mind take a look below?

Expected iPhone 7 (and Plus) Problems and How to Fix Them

You will find some of the most common iPhone 7 problems along with its workarounds.

iPhone 7 stuck in recovery mode

Recovery mode is nothing new to us. It’s been around for years. In fact, recovery mode is useful too, occasionally.

But if your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus is stuck in recovery mode for no reason, that’s not a good sign.

Solutions:

There are multiple ways to fix this. The easiest way is use take advantage of tools like RecBoot, TinyUmbrella, and similar software.

Here, we will use ReiBoot as an example.

  1. Download ReiBoot from here
  2. Connect your iPhone to the computer
  3. Open the utility and click on Exit Recovery

And your iPhone should reboot back up.

Boot loop or stuck on Apple logo

This one is of course not new at all. You see the Apple logo everywhere, even when you restart your iPhone. However, users should be worried if their device gets stuck on boot loop.

But it’s not hard to solve this problem. The workaround to an iPhone 7 boot loop would be DFU mode. When you enter this mode, it will let you restore your iPhone from iTunes.

This will put it back to the factory settings and allow you to setup your phone again.

iPhone 7 Won’t Charge

This is a headache right here. Without power, you can’t have a functional iPhone.

My recommendations:

  1. Be sure to use the original adapter and wire that comes with the packaging.
  2. Connect it to a computer or different power outlets
  3. Restart your iPhone
  4. Clean out the ports in case of dirt

That should help.

No Sim Card

So you just got your iPhone 7 and about to make some calls. But then you see an error that says, “No SIM card installed.”

Solutions:

  1. Swipe up from the home screen to activate Control Center
  2. Tap on the AirPlane Mode icon
  3. Wait a few seconds and tap on it again to disable

If that doesn’t work, try restarting your iPhone.

Touchscreen is untouchable

What’s the point of using a smartphone when the touchscreen isn’t working right?

If your iPhone touchscreen becomes unresponsive, try locking the device and turn it back on. Another fix includes pressing and holding the home and power buttons until you see an Apple logo.

iPhone doesn’t ring

When your iPhone is in Do Not Disturb mode, the ring functionality will be turned off. Furthermore, any incoming calls will go straight to the voicemail.

If this is what you’re experiencing, go to Settings > General > Do Not Disturb and reconfigure it.

Other issues

There are millions of them out there. But we’ve listed the most common one above. If you have seen a significant problem that we didn’t mention, comment below.

I would also suggest visiting the Apple Store as well. They should be able to help you out if the solutions we recommend doesn’t work.

Fix iOS 10 Problems Before/After Update

Now that we are done with fixing issues that might potentially appear on the iPhone 7 let’s move straight to iOS 10.

The instructions below will not limit you to a particular device as there are many iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad models that can still install this firmware.

How to Update to iOS 10

There are two ways to get the iOS 10 firmware.

  • Use iTunes on your computer
  • OTA (Update Over-the-Air) Go to Settings > General > Software Update

Boom! Just wait…this can take up some time.

Software Update Failed

Oh shit, it didn’t go through.

A quick example
A quick example

Calm down; this is completely normal. Let’s me explain why you see this popup. When Apple open the update window, there will be tons of people trying to get it, at the same time.

If your iPhone or iPad neglected to download the firmware, it means that the server might be overloaded.

How do we overcome this?

  1. Reset your internet connection
  2. Restart your iOS device
  3. Try again, and again
  4. Wait a few hours

Again, the servers are not going to process every single request. I personally wait a day or so and get the update.

Not Enough Space

There is one thing I usually do before getting the update. Deleting some useless photos and videos. This will help out a ton.

If you need more storage, consider deleting some of your iOS applications. The good thing is that users can temporarily remove their apps to finish up the update.

Stuck on Verifying Update…

I hate this as much as you do. I don’t mind waiting, but looking at the loading icon for a long time can be annoying and create frustration.

If this happens to you, try this.

Press and hold both buttons (Home and Power) for 10 seconds. Now go back to Settings > General > Software Update. See if you can try again.

Now that you have successfully installed iOS 10 on your device. Hopefully, you don’t experience any issues. If you do, please check the second below.

Poor Battery Life

This isn’t unexpected.

Really! If you follow the news, Apple made a lot of changes to their new iOS 10. Some you might have seen during the beta periods.

But overall, newer design, more features, and the default settings will consume a lot of your iPhone battery.

Furthermore, this issue is also common, especially after a major update like this one. There are many solutions to this.

Here are some of our suggestions:

  • Disable Background App Refresh (It’s in Settings > General)
  • Enable Reduce Motion (Settings > General > Accessibility)

Last but not least, turn on Low Power Mode, also in the Settings app. With this mode turned on, you may get more power (up to 4 hours).

Touch ID Not Working

Security is the best thing to double check after updating to a major firmware like iOS 10. If you happen to notice that Touch ID stopped working, here’s a way to fix that.

Open the Settings app, go to Touch ID & Passcode. Under “Use Touch ID For:” turn off iPhone Unlock and Apple. Then, wait a few minutes and turn them back on.

If the problem still exists, remove dirt and oil from your finger(s) and the sensor, and try re-training your fingerprints.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Problems

It’s not obvious that Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth is causing issues on your iPhone after iOS 10 update. We also have a fix to this.

Go to the Settings page and turn both features off, then wait a few minutes, and turn them back on.

If that doesn’t help, use the Reset function and tap on Reset Network Settings. Hopefully, that will fire up your signal again.

Some More Minor Stuff

Damn, if you are seriously experiencing a lot of problems in iOS 10, I would advise downgrading back to iOS 9.3.5. This might not be something you were waiting to hear. Plus, it’s better than using a broken firmware.

This option is time-sensitive, so you better do it now before Apple close their signing window. The company usually do this after a week, but who knows.
