I personally don’t like to see my face when I’m on a FaceTime call with someone. I’m more interested in seeing the other person and what they’re showing.
But there is no option to disable the FaceTime camera view from my side. Therefore, I’m stuck seeing my own image and sometimes get distracted.
By default, Apple does not allow hiding your face from FaceTime, unless you move the screen somewhere else. But then that is also preventing you from seeing the other contact.
If you’re like me, here is a solution.
HideMyFaceTime is a new Mac application that allows you to stop watching yourself during FaceTime calls.
As perfectly described from the product page:
Do you ever stare lovingly into your own eyes during FaceTime calls? Introducing HideMyFaceTime. It hides your face so you can’t see it. You focus on the other person instead of yourself. They’re probably more interesting anyway.
How does this work?
To make it easier to visualize, you can run a demo test right from the official website. When you first turn it on, the screen will still show your face it in. Once you toggle on the feature, it will become black.
Is this the best option?
You bet because like we mention earlier, there are no Settings from the default FaceTime app to disable your own camera view.
As a result, using a third-party app like this will help a lot. If you’re a self-conscious person on video chat, try HideMyFaceTime app and it’s free as well.
This don’t usually happen, but if you can’t open HideMyFaceTime from your Mac computer, go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Accessibility > Privacy and make it into an allowed app.
