You can now download your favorite shows and movies from Netflix without having to use third-party apps or hacks. This feature was introduced via an app update for iOS and Android back in November of 2016. As a Netflix subscriber, I’m excited about this update. I constantly have to travel for work (airplane or sometimes train) and so offline viewing in Netflix would be one of the best features yet.
If you have an iPhone or iPad and you want to save Netflix shows or movies on your device, here’s how to do it.
How to Download Netflix Shows on your iPhone
- Select a TV Shows that you want
- Next to each episode there is a download icon, tap on it
- The video will be added to your My Downloads which is accessible via the left Menu section
Currently, only a few selected shows are available for download.
For most people, this feature works just fine, but things got a little complicated when I found out that the Downloads feature in Netflix doesn’t work if you have jailbroken iOS device.
Instead of crashing upon launch, I’m still able to open the application and watch shows as normal. But when the Downloads function is performed, the item just stuck in Queue and said “waiting for other downloads to finish.”
How to Fix Netflix Downloads Not Working?
After a quick browse around the r/Jailbreak community, a lot of people have experienced this problem as well. For those who haven’t jailbreak their iPhone yet, the Downloads feature seems to work just fine for them. As of right now, there isn’t a fix for this problem yet. I heard that someone is working on a Flex patch to fix Netflix blocking jailbroken device from downloading their shows.
If you can’t wait for a patch or a tweak to fix this issue, don’t forget you can always unjailbreak your device by updating to the latest firmware version (iOS 10)…
…or install Cydia Eraser. This tweak will put your iPhone or iPad back to its factory settings without updating to a new version of iOS.
Here’s how to use it:
- Download and Install Cydia Eraser from Cydia
- Open the app from your home screen
- Choose erase all data, unjailbreak device from the bottom of the screen
- Tap on Erase All
And wait until your device boot up with a Hello screen. Additional tips that rarely work for Download error (10016-LicenceRequestException) or similar errors for all devices.
- Restart your iOS device
- Open App Switcher and kill the Netflix app
- Delete and re-install from App Store
I hope you the best. Will continue to update this post if something new come up.
New Update is Out, Downloads Now Working
Netflix just rolled out an update to their app that fixes the bugs that prevent jailbroken iOS devices from downloading their shows. This also happens to a lot of regular device’s owners as well. All you have to do is go to the App Store > Updates.
