How to Uninstall iOS 11 Beta and Downgrade to iOS 10.3.3 / 10.3.2

While many people are searching for a way to install iOS 11 on their device without a developer account, there are plenty of individuals who has already upgraded their iPhone or iPad to iOS 11 beta 1 (as of writing this post). Just like you, I really like some of the new features that Apple introduced on stage today. However, since this is the very first beta of iOS 11, it might not work as expected.

Things may slow down a bit or a lot; applications can crash here and there, and more. For instance, every time I open the Messages app, it would take more than 6 seconds to display everything. If that’s no enough for you, try using it for more than a day, and you’ll be able to collect enough reasons to downgrade from iOS 11.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to uninstall the newly updated iOS 11 beta 1 firmware and downgrade back to iOS 10.3.2. Or .3 if you want.

Unlike the original installing process you can’t just remove the profile from your Settings app and call it a day. To downgrade back from iOS 11, you’re going to need a computer and iTunes installed. Make sure it’s the latest version. You can get it here from the official Apple page.

The table below shows the status regarding some of the most recent firmware.

How to Downgrade iOS 11 to iOS 10.3.2 for iPhone / iPad

  1. Click here to visit the IPSW Downloads page
  2. Choose your appropriate device and either iOS 10.3.3 or 10.3.2. Any firmware lower than that won’t be supported
  3. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app > iCloud > Find My iPhone > Toggle it off
  4. Connect your device to the computer and open iTunes. Trust the connection if prompted
  5. If you have a Windows computer, hold Shift or Alt/Option if you have a Mac. While doing so, click on the ‘Check for Update’ button
  6. This will bring up a window for you to select your .IPSW file downloaded in Step 1. Locate that and click Open

iTunes will start to downgrade your device back to iOS 10.3.2 from the new iOS 11 beta. This process can take awhile so sit back and relax. Once your iPhone is rebooted, you can go ahead and set it up as usual.

If you find any problems during the way, leave a comment below. I’ll try to help.

Note: iOS 10.3.1 is no longer being signed by Apple.

How to Delete iOS 11 Profile and Its Firmware After Downgrade

If you have successfully downgraded back to iOS 10.3, good for you. However, there is one more thing we need to take care of. That is removing the iOS 11 profile. This is optional, but many people brought it up in the comment section, so I’m going to address it in this section.

Even if you downgrade from iOS 11, the profile that you installed won’t be removed. This must be done separately. Sometimes, the profile will also download the new firmware for you as well. Even if you don’t want to update, it will still be there. That being said, you may find your device low on storage.

Here’s how you can remove both of that on your iOS 10.3 device.

To remove the iOS 11 profile:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Go to General > Profile
  3. Tap on iOS Beta Software Profile
  4. Select Delete Profile
  5. Confirm by tapping the Delete button

To remove the iOS 11 firmware:

  1. On the same General page, open Storage & iCloud Usage
  2. Choose Manage Storage (the first one)
  3. Select iOS 11 Developer beta (mine says 2.17 GB)
  4. Tap Delete Update

Your iPhone or iPad storage should be in a better position now. Of course, you can always re-install the profile whenever you want to update to iOS 11 beta again.

I’m trying your way but the download takes forever. Any advice on what to do?

  16. I can’t figure out the logic behind this method of downgrading. This is a software trap. The filing system in iOS 11 is completely different then all previous iOS, and you cannot simply install the .IPSW without compromising the integrity of your software. I attempted this method on my iPhone 7 (global), and the process was incredibly irritating and sketchy. After the installation progress decided to take an abrupt halt for several hours, my only option was to force my iPhone into recovery mode. iTunes then proceeded to download and install its own version of iOS 10.3.2 to my device. After several painfully long hours, my phone was up and running, but the software seemed to be terribly confused. My wallpaper was the stock iOS 11 beach scene I was using while in beta, and all of my pictures downloaded (including screenshots I had taken while running the beta), but every single one of my iMessage threads was completely erased. Some of the stock apps were sized for the iPhone 5, and the majority of my downloaded applications and games failed to survive this horrific method of “downgrading”. The broken apps existed on my home screen as white, grid-like diagram that couldn’t be deleted, no matter how many methods I attempted. I tried updating some of these apps and they just became shaded and untouchable. My iCloud account couldn’t handle any of this either, which caused features like iCloud Drive and Keychain to be completely unusable on my device. I did a force reset on my phone several times, stayed connected to powerful wifi for hours, and dug deep into every setting I could think of, but nothing did the trick.

This was a rather unfortunate circumstance, but solving the issue was simple. I had an iCloud backup from a couple weeks back before ever installing the developer beta profile, so I did a complete factory restore on iTunes and then restored from the iCloud back up. Now everything is back to normal and it only took about 30 minutes.

My point is, why on Earth would it be a good idea to completely ignore the restoration process while downgrading to 10.3.2 from 11 beta? The restoration process safely extracts the software on your device and all of its data. I understand that the method suggested on this page may seem like a “shortcut” of some sort; and if said method actually worked, any new data or change in settings made while running the beta would remain on the device after downgrading, but it does not work. iOS 11 has major changes within the software that can’t just be reverted with the simple downgrade installation.
Bottom Line: I don’t understand why this is the suggested method of downgrading. Everywhere else on the internet makes it very clear that you must restore your device to a backup made before installing the beta. In my opinion, installing the .IPSW software right off the bat is incredibly ignorant towards the tech behind iOS 11, as well as the fact that iOS 11 is currently in the form unstable and unpredictable beta.
If I’ve missed something or am wrong about any of this, please let me know. This is not an attempt to antagonize this website or the creators of this post, but an account of my personal experience and why this method brought me so much trouble that could have been easily avoided.

    • Hey Nathan,

Good point. I did the downgrading process like instructed and then restore from an iCloud backup before I updated to iOS 11. I’m guessing it’s somewhat similar to what you did. This method is not that complicated unless you forget to press a button or skip over a step. Anyways, couldn’t disagreed with your points.

    • As suggested above iOS 11 is in its first beta so this is a very common issue you are facing and iOS 11 is the last major os update 5s users are getting . iPhones get slightly slower with every brand new os version so either wait for public beta which will be much more stable or wait for beta 2 which will release tomorrow or day after most probably and fix some bugs.

  43. It’s more than 10 hours since i updated to iOS 11 and I want my share my experience using it. There are slight changes in UI at some places like Settings. I liked the All New AppStore, as well as the control centre. Best part of the control centre is that the long hold shortcuts which I can’t call as 3D Touch is available for all devices. It feels good if you got this without jailbreaking your device. Just hold the Icon on the Control Centre and you can adjust things. Now we can even add or remove things from the Control Centre which we jailbreakers usually do using tweaks. And adding a Screen Recorder was a great idea. You can too add your voice to your recording by enabling Microphone by long holding the icon on CC.

As I Updated, it cleared out approximately 500MBs for me as expected from the new file system which Apple actually introduced in iOS 10.3 called APFS whose core features are Storage Efficient. It actually gives you more room to your iPhone and it keeps clearing out space as we update to a new version as it gets more efficient as we update.

Those network bars seems something new to me. This is what we jailbreakers used to do with tweaks. Battery Icon too got changed if you noticed clearly on the screenshots posted by me in my previous post. Opening the Notification Centre seems like we are again on the lock screen. Animations of Opening and closing apps as well as multitasking got improvements. Photos app also got improvements at the People Section where it detects common faces and combine them and then we give names to them. I noticed a few icons got redesigned like the iTunes and the App Store and the names of the apps placed over the dock got disappeared. This doesn’t seems to be a bug, looks like they changed it. In the weather app, everything seems to be zoomed. New files app is good too as we can have a look on all the files/documents at one place. Phone app looks good too and the all new Calculator.

Siri got major improvements. It got much better than what it was. Natural voice of Siri is great and it’s UI got better. Battery Backup is approximately same but it’s fine if someone is having battery issues as it takes some time for the iOS Battery Index to set itself. It will get an automatic fix in a few days. But overall it’s laggy and buggy as it’s the first beta of the new iOS. Those who are on it can report bugs to Apple using Feedback Assistant.

  60. I take backup on 10.3.2 and then used ios 11 and I connect it to iTunes and it updated my backup.

Now I have downgraded to 10.3.3 and when I try to recover from backup it fails to do that. says can not install as software version too old.

  62. I just updated my iPhone 7 plus to iOS 11. but I have to downgrade and back again to iOS 10.3.3. I’ve downloaded the right version of IPSW and went on with your instruction but when I click on the update button I receive the message that “The iPhone could not be updated because the firmware file was corrupt”. while it seems it doesn’t have any problem. the size is correct and downloaded correctly via the website link in above.
Do you have any idea for solving the problem?

  63. I just got the IOS 11 update a couple days ago. I have the newest updated version of itunes and I know that I downloaded the correct firmware for the version of my iphone. I am holding down the shift button and clicking the update button, and that is working fine. But, when it asks me to enter my password to continue the updating process, it says “The iPhone “” could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (3503).” I don’t know what to do now…I have tried everything.

  66. Guys. The iOS 10.3.3 has been ousted from the signed OSs @ Apple. So when you try to downgrade using iTunes, it’s simply impossible. Sadly Apple has released a too buggy iOS 11.0.2; downgrading to the stable 10.3.3. isn’t possible anymore.
