Getting a YouTube video saved on your iOS device should be a piece of cake. If you still don’t know that, check out this post.
How about converting a video into a ringtone? Can you do that without a tutorial?
I’d bet not!
If you ever wanted to create your own ringtone using a YouTube video, there are Cydia tweaks that you can use.
Before you start, install ToneEnabler.
1. Easy Ringtone
Our first tweak is called Easy Ringtone. This package allows you to download video from YouTube or even tracks from Soundcloud and convert them to ringtone.
The tweak itself pretty much does complete the process. All you need to do is head over to the ModMyi repo, install Easy Ringtone, and tap on Respring.
There will be a standalone app after. Launch Easy Ringtone and using its built-in browser, go on YouTube. Search up a music video you like and choose Download.
Upon downloading, you got several options to choose from.
- Edit the ringtone (Fade in, Fade out, etc.)
- Set the ringtone as your default ringtone
See? That was easy and quick. As we mentioned, YouTube is not the only outlet you can use. Any downloadable contents from SoundCloud or other sites are acceptable as well.
2. Another amazing tweak
Download & Convert let you save any videos from YouTube and convert them into audio or ringtone files right on your device. This means no external app or connecting to a computer.
- Open up your Cydia app and go to the ModMyi repo or you can switch over to the Search tab
- Simply type in the name of the tweak and install
- YouTube is built-in right into this app, you can search for any music video or just regular video and then select Download
Converting from Videos to Audio
- Now that you’ve downloaded the video of your choice, go to the Videos tab
- Choose a video and click Convert
- Choose between Audio or Ringtone
How to Transfer using iTunes
Ok, so I said no computer. And I kept my word (with the first tweak :D). But if you want to use a computer, follow the instructions below.
- Connect your iPhone to a computer and open up iTunes
- Click the Apps tab from the selected device
- Look for File Sharing Tab and click on YouTuber app
- Pick your audio and click “Save as.”
- Import and Sync it with your iPhone
Boom! You’re done! Please do not be discouraged by the long steps. Your new ringtone can be found via Settings > Sounds > Ringtone.
Users also have the option to send their audio or ringtones via Email services like Gmail, Yahoo, etc.
The section below has been added due to popular demand. It’s a good start for people who just want to download videos from YouTube and save them for offline listening.
YouTube Videos as MP3 Audio
When it comes to music streaming apps on the iPhone, I personally choose YouTube over any other popular services such as Spotify or Pandora. The YouTube platform itself provide a hub for entertainment ranging from funny videos, short films, to music videos.
Instead of having to sign up for apps like Spotify or pay for YouTube Red, I’m going to show you how to download videos from YouTube and save them as MP3 file on your iPhone.
- Go on Cydia
- Make sure the “Changes” tab is updated
- Switch over to the Search page
- Type in YouTube++ and tap Install
This isn’t the first time we mention YouTube++. It’s a great jailbreak tweak from UnlimApps that allows iPhone and iPad users to beef up the features of their YouTube app. Once the tweak is installed, you will notice several changes to the application.
First of all, there is a new section called Downloads. We will come back to this in a bit. Try to watch a few videos, note that you haven’t seen any ads right? This Cydia tweaks also act as an adblocker as well. Furthermore, users can now enjoy the background playback feature that’s only available to people who purchased YouTube Red.
To download a music video from YouTube and save it as an audio file, all you have to do is tap on the “Download” button below the video’s title. You will be prompted with different formats.
Tap on “Audio” on the bottom of the list.
Go to the “Downloads” section I mentioned earlier, and all your downloaded videos and videos will be stored there. If you wish to save them to your iPhone, then choose Export under each file. MP3 files will be sent to your Music app while MP4 aka video files will be saved to your Videos app.
Play YouTube Videos in the Background as Audio
So you don’t have a jailbroken iPhone? That’s not a problem. We posted a tutorial for this a few months ago.
If all you care about is the background playback feature, then there are a few apps that we can recommend. When you use them, the audio in YouTube will continue to play even when you exit the app or switch to a different application.
- Music Player for YouTube
- Music Tube
I hope that help and enjoy.
