Who would have known that deleting an app from the Apple Watch can be tricky sometimes? I know for a fact that it should be easier than uninstalling a Windows or Mac software since you don’t have to access the Control Panel or go to a particular location.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case for some people. Several users have recently reported that the “X” button that they usually see is no longer available aka missing.
Here’s a quick recap of how to delete an Apple Watch app:
- Press and hold an app in the grid of circles
- Choose the X icon in the corner
- After that, the application should disappear right away
That sounds so simple, isn’t it? Not to some individuals as they claim that the ‘X’ button wasn’t there to delete their applications.
This is odd since I had never experienced such problem before but I managed to find some solutions for all of you.
Disable Restrictions on Apple Watch
- On your iPhone, go to the Watch app
- Settings > General > Restrictions
- If this option is On, turn it off
What you may not know is that the restrictions feature is currently being enabled, that prevent users from deleting their Apple Watch apps.
Once the feature is disabled, you will be able to uninstall your app(s) again.
I’d recommend disabling Automatic App Install (General > App Install > toggle Automatic App Install to Off) because once the Restrictions is back in charge, it will reinstall your deleted apps.
Delete Apple Watch apps from iPhone
Did you know that you can delete apps from your Apple Watch directly on your iPhone? Thanks to the official Watch app you can.
When opening the Watch app, you should see a long list of installed applications (this depends on how much you’ve downloaded) and then tap on the specific application. Now look for Show App on Apple Watch and toggle it off.
Doing it in iOS 10
If you want to get rid of stock apps in iOS 10 and on your Apple Watch, all you have to do is uninstall them on your iPhone and that will execute the action on your watch as well.
