The Apple Watch is a perfect fitness tracker for running heads and people who love doing physical activity. That’s because you have the Workout app, Activity, and several apps dedicated to runners. But what about the consumers that hike a lot and climb up on these giant mountains? Sure, the watch can tracks how much they have walked, but it can not calculate their elevation.
You must have been quite disappointed to find that out.
Up until this point, even with the Apple Watch Series 2, the gadget still fails to help users track and know their current elevation level. But, there are several fixes to this problem. You can pull out your iPhone and track your elevation from the Compass app. Another way to come about this issue is using a third-party app like GPS Altitude Meter + or similar products within the same category.
In this post, I’ll list some of the best apps that you can download to keep track of your current altitude right from your Apple Watch.
Just like I mentioned earlier, this app can show your current elevation level using your GPS coordinates. I know there are some apps out there that require you to have your iPhone at all time, this one doesn’t since it is GPS-based, it still works even when your iPhone has no signal.
So far, I love its efficiency, and there are no ads that come with it. You can purchase GPS Altitude Meter + by Oguz Agceli for your Apple Watch for only $0.99.
There are a lot of useful features that can be mentioned for this app. “My Altitude” is an altitude meter for your Apple Watch that requires no internet connection, uses GPS signals, measure your altitude, and even the water boiling point.
The application has two methods of calculating your altitude. You can choose between the device sensor or NOAA data files. My Altitude developer actually recommends you use your device sensor for more accuracy. This app is now available for free from the App Store.
The ‘Current Elevation’ app by Jin Jeon provides users with three different type of elevation.
- Ground Level
- Above Mean Sea Level
- Above Ground Level
Unlike the two apps above, this one does require an internet connection if you want to calculate your Ground Level and Above Ground Level elevation. The app is available for free, but it comes with an in-app purchase of $1.99 if you want to remove ads.
Let me know in the comment section below which app will have the honor to come with on you on your next hiking or mountain climbing trip.
