Unlike Twitter and Instagram, the search feature on Snapchat is very complex or should I say too straightforward.
In other words, the system will not suggest you any people to add based on who you have as your friends or other similar factors. Let’s say you know a person, but don’t have the courage to ask for their Snapchat username. What else can you do?
There are a few things you can do:
- Find them on other social media. Usually, people would put their Snapchat username on their bio.
- Ask a friend who know that specific person
- Keep guessing and enter all the possible query on Snapchat’s search box
You can open up your Phone app and see if you have the person’s phone number under your Contacts. Some people do not know that they can find their friends on Snapchat using their mobile number. I recently discovered this out as well, and it has saved me tons of time.
I can’t speak for anyone else or other methods, but by far this is my favorite way of adding people on Snapchat without asking for their username.
How to Find Someone Snapchat Using Their Phone Number
- Open your Snapchat app and login if you haven’t done so
- Swipe down from the camera screen
- Select Add Friends
- Tap on Add from Contacts
- A permission request will be prompted. Choose Allow Access
- Find the people you want to add under Snapchatters In My Contacts
By default, Snapchat will give you several ways of adding people to their app. These include by username, snapcode, nearby signal, or via your Contacts list as shown above.
I bet you discovered a bunch of people that are in your Contacts but never been added to your Snapchat account. Be sure to add only the people you know or whom you’re friends with. You don’t want to violate anyone’s privacy.
What if I can’t find the person even if they have a Snapchat account?
Even though you can add anyone on Snapchat if you know their phone number, a few people can still never show up on that list. The reason being they have disallowed Snapchat from showing their mobile number to others.
If you want to do the same, tap on the Settings section > Mobile Number > and toggle “Let others find me using my mobile number” to On.
I hope that help and happy snapping.
More Ways to Add Your Friends on Snapchat
In additional to the Contacts list method, there are other ways you can use to find and add people you know on Snapchat.
Add by Username
The easiest way, like I mentioned earlier, is by getting their “correct” Snapchat username and enter it in the search box. This will pull up the profile of the person you’re trying to add. All you have to do now is tapping on the “Add” button in purple with the white background. It will instantly turn into Added with a checkmark next to it.
Hate typing? Now you can quickly add someone via Snapchat by scanning their Snapcode right inside your Snapchat’s camera screen. You don’t have to take a picture of it, just tap on the code and the app will automatically identify the username.
The Snapcode feature also works when your friend is not around as well. Just ask them to send you a picture of it. Once you received the code (save it to your Photos app), go on Snapchat > Add Friends > Snapcode > and select the Snapcode photo from your Camera Roll.
