According to the official blog post, WhatsApp now has over one billion active users.
That’s number is impressive, and it’s going to increase soon.
iMessage vs. WhatsApp
Don’t worry; I’m not going to write several paragraphs comparing the two of the best messaging apps for iOS.
I’ll use this section to include some of the features that both lacks.
- End-to-end encryption
- Scheduling system
While we can’t do anything about the first one, there’s a solution to tackle the second one, using a Cydia tweak.
Just like the iMessage app on your iOS device, by default, WhatsApp doesn’t allow message scheduling. This means you can’t set a system that sends a message when the time is reached.
However, if you want, we can try the new jailbreak tweak called WhatsApp Reminder.
With this package, you can now schedule Whatsapp messages on your iPhone.
Here’s how it works:
- You create a message or messages
- Set a specific date and time
- The tweak put it in its record and do the job when the time is right.
Simple as that!
Why do People Schedule Messages in the first place?
Good question. I don’t know about other people, but I use this tweak to send out birthday wishes to my friends who live across the country or globe.
Their timezones are different, so I can’t stay awake until it’s their “12:00” to send the message.
Another example would be a reminder. I could be in an afternoon meeting and have WhatsApp send a message to my wife that reminds her to pick the kids up from school.
How to Schedule a WhatsApp Message
Now that the introduction is over, I’ll show you how to install this tweak.
- Open Cydia and refresh the BigBoss repo
- Download and Install WhatsApp Reminder by developer Ibrahim Sammour
- Launch the official WhatsApp application
- Choose a contact or a group, set what you want to send, adjust the date & time, and tap on “Create Reminder.”
Just because you scheduled a message that doesn’t mean it’s set in stone. You can always go back and adjust the date and time.
If for some reason, this tweak doesn’t work, there is another one called Message Scheduler for WhatsApp, and it costs $0.99 (from the same repo). This one provide a few extra features such as confirmation before sending.
