In iOS 9, Apple introduced a really neat feature called Content Blocker for their very own default browser Safari. Using third-party ad-blockers from the App Store, iPhone, and iPad users can quickly block any type of ads while browsing with Safari.
Wouldn’t it also be good if we can also block ads while looking through Cydia repository and installing jailbreak tweaks? Well, that is certainly possible using a new tweak called CleanCydia.
This new jailbreak package will allow you to remove most ads from Cydia sources. To clarify, Saurik do not implement or display any type of ads in his app, however, if you ever go inside a tweak’s page from BigBoss, ModMyi, or any repository, that when you will see advertisements.
These ads are displayed by the repo owners. According to the developer of this tweak, Cydia relies on web views to show packages, this means the tweak will just look for outgoing ad URLs and block them.
…references with a blocked list, and forbids ad requests.
The concept is similar to any other ad-blockers.
How to Remove Most Ads in Cydia
- Go on Cydia and install iFile
- Download CleanCydia from ruslan’s Github page
- Once done, tap on Open in “iFile”
- Now choose Installer to install the .deb file
And that is how you can easily install a .deb from Github or non-hosted repo and quickly install it onto your iPhone or iPad.
Back to our main topic, this tweak will work right off the bat, no need to configure or enable anything. To find out if ads have been blocked or not. All you have to do is launch Cydia, visit a package and you will see the page is now shorter than before.
In a nutshell, you no longer see any type of advertisements. CleanCydia was designed to block ads that are specifically from Cydia sources, you will not be able to use it for any other apps on your iOS device.
